Hi,

I'm based in Inverness and have recently bought my first ever electric car - an MG ZS EV.

I'm making many so many mistakes driving the car that I would really appreciate if there were any local EV drivers that can offer tips etc about the various techniques of driving, charging etc. of which I should be aware.

Also, it would be good to have a better understanding of the infrastructure in the region, and hopefully learn to use the system better.

Many thanks

Part of the challenge is that there is no 'right' answer to many questions... Under lockdown, the keep the charge level between 50-8-% is pretty certain.

How many miles are you travelling a day?

Neil,

Thanks for responding.

I was hoping to do about 10-12k miles p.a., but I have only done 700 miles in 2 months, and 300 of them was getting the car home from the dealership!! In fact, I'm only doing about 10 miles per week due to Lockdown.

I am not charging up the car to full unless I am needing to make a journey, so I have still about 65% charge (110 miles range) and don't plan to charge up until I'm down to about 25%.

Is that right?

Hi Dave

I live in Nairn so not far away, Ive had my Kona Electric for 15 months now and take delivery of my Tesla this week (woohoo!!). I've done 38,000 miles around the Highlands and up and down the A9 in my Kona since i took delivery so if you have any questions I'm happy for you to get in touch.

Ewan, Thanks for getting back to me.

38,000 in 15 months is pretty committed EV driving. Well done, and very encouraging for us new starts!

And now a Tesla - very impressive.

It would be good to have a catch up at some stage about how you charge throughout all that mileage. I'm taking it that you'll have a home charging point, but it's picking people's brains about how best to charge up when out and about. I've had a couple of near misses with the Range Indicator not showing any miles, but just showing 4 flashing lines!! The new site at Tomatin saved my life the first night I had the car!!

Speak soon, hopefully.

Hi Dave

I know the new Tomatin charger well, we were involved with the construction of the new community hub and i was lucky enough to be the 1st (as far as I can tell) on that charger after it was commissioned.

I think I can private message you. If so i'll send you my mobile, give me a call whenever suits.

Regards

Hi, We moved home from England to the Torridon/Applecross area last month and we are currently renting. I have a Polestar 2 ND I am a member of the Polestar EV UK group. Have been using the chargers at The Torridon whilst out to collecti Tesco shopping at Torridon Community Centre, but also waiting for those at Lochcarron to be switched on. Those at the Torridon have worked well. On the way up noticed that a lot of faster chargers in Inverness were either not working or were not accessible. Hopefully will be back in operation in April/May when we come out of lockdown.

Andrew,
Welcome. That sounds pretty encouraging over there, much better than I experienced when doing the NC500 in August. However I gained 14 miles range coming down the Beallach Na Ba which gave me a broad smile!!
Yes, there are a few more chargers popping up particularly on the A9. All getting a bit more hopeful.
Polestar 2 - very impressive!
